Inter Miami skipper Lionel Messi had steam coming off in the first half against Montreal after he was held back from returning to the field. La Pulga was taken off the field in the 41st minute after he went down following a rash tackle. With the medical staff taking the Argentine to the sidelines for treatment, the player had to wait two minutes before he could return to the game.
Lionel Messi was seen visibly annoyed at the new MLS rule. The Inter Miami skipper apparently looked at the camera while stating, “With this type of rule, we are doing a bad job.” Inter Miami’s performance so far in the game could also be one of the reasons behind the player’s frustrations. Before the incident, the Herons were trailing 2-0 after two early goals from Montreal.

Before Montreal had the time to recover from the first goal, Miami quickly leveled things up, with Luis Suarez getting one over during a corner. El Pistolero was perfectly on the mark as he slotted the ball in after a deflection from his fellow teammate landed square onto his feet. With the game all tied up, Lionel Messi and Matias Rojas linked up in the second half as they played a brilliant one-two to cut through Montreal’s defense.
With the home team playing with a highline, Rojas took complete advantage as he played a lofted pass to Benjamin Cremaschi who despite a poor first touch, beat his man and pushed the ball into the back of the net to provide his team with the winner. The win ensures Lionel Messi and his side maintain their lead at the top of the Eastern Conference standings with 27 points from 13 games.
