This soccer season has been quite phenomenal with the neck-to-neck fight for the National League title being a testament to that. While Wrexham AFC, owned by Ryan Reynolds, ended up snatching the title, their rivals, Notts County, can also pat themselves on the back for their incredible performance in the league.
Nottingham County finished in an impressive second place in the National League. Thanks to incredible 107 points and their promotion hero Macaulay Langstaff’s astonishing 42 goals, Notts County also earned a promotion to the fourth division. But, now, as Notts gears up for the fourth division, it seems their promotion hero and top scorer Macaulay Langstaff might be lured away from the team.

According to Football League World, Wrexham has shown an interest in signing Langstaff from Notts County. Reports reveal that Ryan Reynolds’ side is “quite interested” in signing him. This doesn’t come as a surprise given how Wrexham had to go all out to secure the League title ahead of Notts County. However, they are not alone in pursuing him. The Championship-bound teams, Plymouth Argyle and Ipswich Town have too registered an interest in the 24-year-old.

The hitch in the duel for Langstaff is that he is still under a three-year-long contract with Notts County correlating to a hefty transfer fee should he decide to move. Wrexham may have the financial resources to compete with the Championship sides for Langstaff.
But it is also worth considering that the Welsh club is already well stocked up with forwards. Hence, they are likely to come up with some alternatives if they are unable to persuade Notts into releasing Langstaff.

Given how Langstaff has become a sensation in the National League this season, Notts is perhaps more likely to fight tooth and nail to keep him. What is agreed upon, however, is that Macaulay Langstaff has had a season of his career. A validation of this came when Langstaff was once compared to goal-scoring machine Erling Haaland.

Veteran soccer presenter and broadcaster Becky Ives, in March, praised Langstaff via Twitter, calling him an “absolute baller”. In her tweet, she applauded Langstaff for reaching 40 goals this season and tying a league record with five games left to play. Along with that, she also stamped him as the National League’s very own Erling Haaland. A massive testament to his skill level, indeed.
