Martino had to make a choice. It was either to play Messi in the league run or rest him and utilize his skills in the Open Cup final. Martino chose to do the latter. A similar question was asked to the midfielder of Inter Miami, Dixon Arroyo. Arroyo tackled the question well and sent a message not only to Lionel Messi but to everyone in the dressing room.
In a post-match interview, Arroyo was asked if Messi asks for advice on what will be his take – to win the title or make it to the playoffs to which he replied, “The truth is, if he asks me, well, let’s think about the final. We won the title there and then we see what happens. These are decisions that have an impact on many things. Let’s hope that he can give us that hand that he has been giving us. We all have to be ready and willing to play a great role and be able to win the title.”
The Ecuadorian international also stated that it’s difficult to choose between the two but a title is a title. He also said he can’t tell for sure what would Messi choose but considering he has played and won everything he might also opt for the title.
