Imagine being a soccer player and getting a call from someone like Lionel Messi, urging you to join his team. While hardly anyone would miss a chance of a lifetime like this, well, talk about surprises! La Pulga got a straight rejection from none other than his Argentinian compatriot, Marcos Rojo, regarding the possibility of joining Inter Miami. Before anyone judges the defender, hear out his remarkable reason.
The former Manchester United defender recently sat down for a lengthy interview on Argentinian-based radio, La Red, AM 910. Aside from narrating his experiences while playing for Boca Juniors, he finally broke his silence on Miami transfer rumors that had been circulating since last year. “In January Leo called me, it’s not like just anyone called me, not an intermediary, not anyone. I spoke with Leo Messi, who told me about the possibility of going to Inter (Miami). Imagine what that means for any footballer,” he said. So what kept him at The Bombonera?
“I was not convinced to leave Boca, I had recently renewed,” said Rojo. The ex-Manchester United defender also assured the club’s president and Argentinian icon, Juan Román Riquelme, regarding his desire to stay. “I am 100% convinced to continue in Boca and I want to continue doing what remains of my contract, I have this year and a whole year left,” added the 34-year-old. Rojo also acknowledged certain areas of development to regain his level. “I will have to improve, work harder to have my place here, which is where I like to be,” he concluded.

While his mind said join Messi in Fort Lauderdale, his heart chose Boca Juniors. Either way, upon hearing this, Messi would certainly respect his decision. However, another Argentinian star is coming to fulfill the Miami skipper’s hope of a reunion.
Inter Miami keen to reunite Angel Di Maria with Lionel Messi
“It would not be feasible,” said Tata Martino when asked about the possibility of bringing Angel Di Maria to Inter Miami. But the development behind the scenes suggests the story can be fulfilled. Weeks ago, the Benfica star’s representatives were spotted at the Herons’ training facility. Interestingly, the agency that represents Di Maria is the one that facilitated Oliver Giroud’s move to LA Galaxy. But they may face a hiccup!

Benfica isn’t keen to see Di Maria leave Portugal, whose contract is set to expire. Instead, the Eagles are potentially preparing a new deal for the 36-year-old. Another competition might be on the horizon for Tata Martino and Co., as Turkish giants Besiktas are also keeping tabs on the former Real Madrid star. Either way, the final decision rests on Di Maria, as, unlike Marcos Rojo, he looks open to reuniting with Lionel Messi.
