After winning promotion to the Football League, Wrexham are looking to capitalize on their winning momentum. The Welsh side is keen to repeat the feat in League Two. Moreover, Ryan Reynolds’ dream to take the club to the Premier League is still his focus as he looks to give a major boost to the club’s squad.

Hence, the club has been looking to bolster its ranks with big-name signings. But it seems like an ex-Wrexham player insists that the team needs to avoid such star signings, claiming it could turn the flourishing club into a circus.

Ex-Wrexham and Wales defender Neil Taylor has advised Reynolds and McElhenney not to sign big names and veteran players. As stated by the Sun, he said, “It can’t become a circus. That’s the main thing.” The former Reds’ star insists it will greatly affect their promotion run in the later divisions.

“Wrexham are at the stage now where I’ve seen a couple of my old friends offer to play for them—it shows the pull of the football club.” While he praised the fact that now the club has the potential to “pull” big names in the championship, he advised them “to be careful who they do get through the door.” Moreover, the soccer star urged the owners not to blindly sign players because of their big names.

He claimed that to become successful, they should avoid veteran names like Gareth Bale, Hal Robson-Kanu, and Morten Gamst Pedersen. “Leave those players that are over the hill. I’d say to Hal ‘I don’t think you’re getting in over Paul Mullin. You’re retired now and he’s a top-class striker’.” Taylor claimed that retired or aged players don’t have a chance to take the place of fresh players like Mullin!

Taylor also warned them about the competition, saying Leagues One and Two are not easy. He said the level of soccer is quite high due to the number of games, journeys, and playing in different types of stadiums. “So I’d say to Wrexham, stay clear and go for players who know the league and have been successful in it, players who are hungry to get higher up.” These were some of the words of wisdom from Taylor for the Hollywood owners. While Bale rejected the move, a few big names wanted to play for the club.

While Wrexham continues to look in the transfer market, many players showed an interest in playing at the Racecourse Ground. Following the whole Gareth Bale saga, other players, including Hal Robson-Kanu and Morten Gamst Pedersen, were linked. In one instance, Robson-Kanu admitted to coming out of retirement and playing for the Reynolds side.

Soon after, another veteran, Morten Gamst Pedersen, aged 41, also offered his services to the club. Perhaps it is the Ben Foster effect that has led the veterans to see Wrexham as a place for adventure. Nevertheless, what are your thoughts on Neil Taylor’s advice to Reynolds?
