Real Madrid has always kept their jerseys subtle. Their low-key white jersey, which granted the nickname ‘Los Blancos,’ is a testimony to that. Even the club’s away kits are mostly simple and solid. However, some of Adidas’ Madrid kits have stood out, not for subtlety, but for certain elaborate patterns and designs. It stunned fans when Adidas and the Japanese designer Yohji Yamamoto collaborated to drop a third kit for them in the 2014-15 season. That sensational black kit had graphic dragons emblazoned on it! Recent rumors show the famous ‘dragon Y-3‘ Real Madrid jerseys coming back!
Currently, Madrid has a pattern-rich second kit and a solid black and gold third kit. Anyhow, those are no competition to Adidas’ forthcoming dragon-inspired fourth kit, which was last donned by the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale. Interestingly, the Yamamoto kits come in three different colors.

Adidas and Yamamoto have collaborated to launch a dragon-inspired 2023-24 fourth kit for Real Madrid. They reportedly expect to launch the kit between January and March 2024. The iconic earlier design which includes the graphics of a mythical Dragon King and a Dragon phoenix remains unchanged. Alongside the club’s crest, Yamamoto will also add their official Y-3 logo on the to-be-released shirts. Meanwhile, these rare collections come in three colors, namely black, purple, and orange, as per Footy Headlines.

In both the black and purple kits, the player’s name and the sponsor’s name will be written in white. Whereas, Real Madrid’s 2014-15 goalkeeper’s kit inspires the orange one. They will print the names on the shirts in black. A newer version of Iker Casillas’ famous kit could now be donned by the likes of Jude Bellingham! Earlier, the kit came in just one color-black. But that was more than enough to pique fans’ interest, for the mythical beasts in the Madrid kit had a story to tell.

Meaning behind Real Madrid’s dragons
The word ‘Real’ in Real Madrid means ‘Royal’ in English. Spanish King Alfonso XIII gave the club this name and also bestowed their crest with the royal crown. The Dragon King in the Yamamoto kits resonated with Madrid’s connection with the Spanish royalty. It also symbolizes the club’s domination and power. Meanwhile, the Dragon Phoenix, a symbol of resurgence, stood for Madrid’s resistance and determination. Many a time, we have seen Los Blancos re-surge like a Phoenix with last-minute goals that seal their rivals’ fate.

Then, the Dragon kits were launched as a limited edition piece. Only a mere 1,400 kits were put on sale 10 years ago. Let’s hope that won’t be the case this time. Are you excited to see the La Liga side’s new colors? Will you buy one? Tell us in the comments below.
