Angel Di Maria is Lionel Messi‘s partner in crime. After playing a crucial role in the Argentine skipper’s international success, fans dreamt about the possibility of a similar partnership in the MLS. Recent talks suggested David Beckham’s club was eyeing a probable chance to sign Di Maria. However, after Tata Martino’s recent comments about the situation, the latest reports seem to rest any such expectations.

Despite being in the last stages of his career, Di Maria is attracting attention from top clubs. According to Turkish journalist Murat Özen, the Benfica midfielder’s agent had a meeting with Turkish giants Besiktas. Reports also add weight to his move to Turkey, as the agent was curious about the team and Istanbul as a city. The 16-time Turkish Champions feel that the Argentine could fill their midfield spot perfectly.

Meanwhile, the 36-year-old has been in decent form this season, with 16 goals and 15 assists for Benfica in all competitions. The Portuguese club missed out on the league trophy to Sporting Lisbon and will look for fresh legs in the next one. Earlier, Di Maria chose to come back to his first European club on a one-year contract despite receiving heavy offers from the Saudi clubs. Fideo’s contract will expire this summer. But with earlier talks revealing Benfica’s intent to extend another year, the club where he would land is still uncertain.

On the other hand, reports of Di Maria and Lionel Messi playing together are another cause of joy for soccer fans. But in club soccer, the fans will have to come to peace that it has already happened at PSG, and chances of a repetition look bleak.
