Most people believe it was pure luck, while some believe it was a moment of genius from the USMNT player. Amidst the recent plaudits, an old video of Landon Donovan resurfaced of him talking about Pulisic joining AC Milan.

One might say how the tides have turned. Donovon stated, “We all said when he went to Chelsea, yeah! He’s gonna play, he’s gonna play. Didn’t play a lot. At Milan, I would think he’s gonna play a lot but you just don’t know.” Fast forward a year later after he joined AC Milan, he is the first name on Paulo Fonseca’s team sheet.

With most people debating about the goal, fans took online to slate Landon Donovon, who must be eating his words right now. A fan stated, “Jealousy I stand by it he is jealous of Christian.”

You see, in the first part of the video, Landon Donovan wanted Pulisic to join the LA Galaxy considering the 2026 World Cup approaches. As a fun fact, Donovan loves La Galaxy and plied his trade with David Beckham winning the MLS League title. Moreover, as an American, he would have loved to see his countrymate play in the MLS. However, the quality in the European soccer leagues remains different. The MLS has a long way to go to match those standards. Hence, Pulisic playing well in Europe ultimately means he is a world-beater in the current day and age. Fans didn’t leave Donovan alone, though. They took online to showcase their feelings.

As explained earlier, this fan stated, “At milan, I would think he’s gonna play but you just don’t know” 3,518 minutes and 30 g/a (10 this season already) later, pulisic has made donovan look like the biggest clown there ever was for even suggesting he go to mls instead of Milan.” Significantly, Donovan played most of his career in the MLS. He came to Everton on loan and shone for the club for some time. Likewise, he started his career at Bayer Leverkusen. Apart from that, he never played in Europe, while Pulisic played for top clubs in Germany, England, and now Italy.

Another user stated, “Donovan like a lot of players turned commentator are stuck in their own era. His advice is right 20 years ago.” It is subjective to discuss Donovan’s advising capabilities now because, as a loyal servant to the USMNT, Donovan carried his nation most time. Yet, he couldn’t muster a major trophy apart from the CONCACAF Gold Cup. With all due respect, it’s a great tournament, but the quality of the opposition sometimes matters.

On the contrary, another user explained how the best USMNT players should go abroad and play in the English Premier League, Spanish League, etc. He disregarded Donovan’s advice last year by stating, “MLS apologists will only hold back the USMNT. We need our best players playing in the best leagues against the best players.”
