Kylian Mbappe may be leaving Paris Saint-Germain but with yet another drama. The Frenchman’s contract will expire at the end of next month and he will go on to join his dream club, Real Madrid. However, instead of leaving on good terms, Mbappe may burn bridges with PSG once and for all as the World Cup winner is set to drag the Parisians into court over unpaid wages and loyalty bonuses.

The story comes through the columns of Le Equipe. It all started last October when Mbappe’s €80 million ($86 million) loyalty bonus was not paid by PSG as part of their agreement. However, in February, the club did pay the bonus to him. Nasser Al-Khelaïfi’s camp claims they did so with the expectation that Real Madrid would eventually settle the bill, rather than doing it through Mbappe’s bonus. However, the PSG chairman was dealt a huge blow.

Florentino Perez apparently poured cold water on Al-Khelaïfi’s hopes of recovering the hefty bonus through the La Liga side. Los Blancos President clearly stated that Madrid won’t pay a single penny for Mbappe, who is already set to be a free agent in June. This didn’t settle well with the PSG chief as tensions between Al-Khelaïfi and Perez have grown since then over the following years.

Hence, this led the French capital to deliberately “forget” paying Mbappe’s salary for the month of April, just days before he publically announced his decision to leave. Coincidentally, this operation also led them to save the €80 million fee that they paid to Mbappe and were seeking from the Spanish capital. This incident of PSG has upset the 25-year-old forcing him to allegedly take matters to the court.

Tussle continues between the lawyers of Kylian Mbappe and PSG

While some sources suggest that the representatives of Kylian Mbappe and PSG are locked in “negotiations” over the settlement of his unpaid salary, it’s no less than a silent legal war to be precise. In the last few days, the communication between lawyers has been limited to just email exchanges with no official meeting taking place. While Mbappe’s legal team seeks payment of his wages, PSG’s attorneys aim to formalize an agreement recalling the striker’s agreement to forego the €80 million bonus last summer, the same amount that PSG reimbursed in February.

So far, no agreement has come to light. Notably, this isn’t the first time PSG has demanded a certain transfer fee for Mbappe. Throughout the year, PSG rather had hoped that they would at least get something in return from their hefty investment in their star player through transfer fees or a lucrative contract. But it looks like they would be left empty-handed, as not only did they lose Kylian Mbappe for free, but now they also face the possibility of missing out on their desired fee. Nevertheless, let’s see what happens at this stage.
