Manchester City skipper Kyle Walker came very close to throwing blows during his visit to the Gtech Community Stadium. The Englishman got into an altercation with Brentford’s Neil Maupay with match officials forced to intervene and calm the duo down. Expert forensic lip reader Jeremy Freeman told Daily Mail what went down.
According to Freeman, Walker approached the 4th official and shouted: ‘I’m gonna knock him [Maupay] out’, to which Atwell replied: ‘Shush’. However, Walker refused to back down and went on to say: ‘Wait there’ – pointing to the tunnel – before walking back over to Gillet.
The England international further complained to the referee and said, ‘Ref he spoke about my kids, he spoke about my kids, not once, but twice.’ To this Maupay is said to have replied: ‘I didn’t, it’s OK’. Gillet tried to defuse the situation by saying: ‘Let’s deal with it at the end’ before turning to Maupay and adding: ‘Now, now, just calm down, listen to me… think about it, think about it.’
Maupay also responded to Attwell by saying: ‘That’s a lie, that’s not fair, I promise you now.’ Both Pep Guardiola and Thomas Frank refused to comment on the feud between the two players. City won the game 3-1 thanks to a Phil Foden hattrick. While Maupay pleaded his innocence to the referee in this case, he was at it against Tottenham Hotspurs’ midfielder James Maddison, when he mocked his goal celebration.

Maupay copied Maddison’s dart celebration to wind him up
This isn’t the first time Brentford forward Neil Maupay has found himself in the thick of controversies. A few days before the Kyle Walker incident, Maupay wound up Spurs’ star James Maddison after scoring the opening goal in the match at Tottenham Hotspur stadium. He copied Maddison’s ‘dart’ celebration to which the former Leicester City man took exception.
He quickly went over to the Frenchman and confronted him in dramatic fashion. Maddison tapped the back of Maupay’s head with his hand and pulled him in close while the Brentford man returned the favor with a couple of light slaps to the chest. He then pushed Maddison away and stepped away from the situation.

As Spurs beat Brentford 3-2, Maddison revealed what he told him during their confrontation. Speaking after the match, Maddison said, “I just said to him, he hasn’t scored enough goals to have his own celebration. So he had to copy mine.” Not the one to shy away from a war of words, Maupay later posted a picture on Instagram of him using Maddison’s celebration with the caption, “Gutted we couldn’t get the win. More goals and less relegations in my career than James Maddison. We go again Monday Bees.” So far neither Walker nor Maupay have spoken about their altercation on the field.
