Soccer Aid 2023 saw a mixed-gender game for the first time in its history. Former England women’s player Jill Scott captained the England XI. The England squad comprised the likes of Paul Scholes, Gary Cahill, Jermain Defoe, Gary Neville, Nicky Butt, and David James, amongst others. On the other hand, Usain Bolt captained World XI.

Soccer superstars like Francesco Totti, Hernan Crespo, Gabriel Batistuta, Roberto Carlos, and Nani made it to the World XI squad. The game ended 4-2 in favor of World XI. However, England hit back with two goals after Bolt’s opener, with Scholes scoring one. United legend gave England XI lead in the 53rd minute after a brilliant finish from outside the box. The Old Trafford rose to the occasion by cheering for the icon.

Meanwhile, the joy was short-lived. Scholes and his former United teammate Nani clattered into each other. It resulted in a knee injury to Scholes, who was recently seen with crutches outside his house. He took to social media to give an update on his injury.

“Knee’s f*** but couldn’t give two s**… nothing will ever give me a better feeling than playing in front of a full house at OT and scoring a goal,” Scholes wrote. The game didn’t go well for his team, as they lost. But it lived up to the expectations of the fans and raised a significant amount to benefit the charity.
