TV shows and documentaries create a difference in people’s lives if it is exemplary. Creating movies is an art, but most films can’t extend the content because of the period. For TV shows, they can enter the finer details of everything and anything which revolves around the plot.

It is where ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ took all plaudits. They entered the club’s ethos and delighted the audiences with their top-notch content. Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney worked hard behind the scenes to get connected to the club. With the documentary, they widened their soccer fan base, as well as generated revenue.

Initially, the documentary set the tone for the season of Wrexham. Later, the documentary-led process turned into a football-led process, helping the club to generate revenue. With a promotion in their bags, the returns would be a welcome sight for the owners.

‘Welcome to Wrexham’ generates revenue for the soccer club

The club executive, Shaun Harvey, explained the reasons for the latest dynamic change from being used for documentary-led to football-led processes. In a recent interview, he stated, “And when we took TikTok and Expedia on as our sponsors, it was as much to do with exposure and advertising around the documentary in the US as it was supporting the Wrexham football club. What we’ve managed to do because of the documentary is to change the dynamics. So it’s now about being associated with the football club, that’s also in the documentary. That’s the key dynamic that has changed.”

Earlier, the soccer fraternity remained unaware of the soccer club apart from the local fans. But, the TV show helped the fans to understand the process, and the work done to get the soccer club back on top. Harvey continued, “It was documentary led. Now it’s a football club led with support from the documentary. And that’s what we always needed to achieve. Because ultimately what promotion brings to the EFL is, yes increase in revenue. Increase profile. But a slightly more rigid framework to be able to work within.”
