It’s a thrilling month for the soccer world as teams gear up to update their squads. The winter transfer window has been a bit slow to start, but it never lacks quality. That said, Italian club Juventus, in its quest to add depth, was eyeing Manchester City’s player Kalvin Philips. However, in recent developments, the club from Turin has finally made its call.
Both teams would be genuinely satisfied if the deal had been established. Manchester City has enough depth in its squad to keep even the best players out. And Juventus is looking for that winning formula, which has been lacking for a few months. Nevertheless, it looks like Juventus have figured out what they need.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the talks between the Italian giants and Manchester City have been unfruitful. Juventus has dropped interest in the star after salary and loan talks have failed. Although the type of deal was not yet confirmed, it was estimated to be more of a loan than a buy from the former Italian Champions.

The player has not started many games for the treble winners this season amid heavy competition, and Pep prefers much younger talent like Rico Lewis over the star. Pep Guardiola has earlier revealed that he doesn’t have Kalvin Philips in his plans. However, the club’s abundance of highly talented players can work in favor of other teams as well. Meanwhile, the holding midfielder does not completely go off the market.
According to reports, Newcastle United manager Jamie Howe is also impressed with the star and is expected to show stronger interest as Juventus backs off. Newcastle, who started off the season on high, has suffered injuries to players like Joe Willock and Elliot Anderson. On the other hand, their recent signing, Sandro Tonali, was also suspended for betting. That, coupled with Philip’s hard time at the club, may strike a deal.

Kalvin Philips struggles at Manchester City
The player was mostly called from the bench by Guardiola this season. Philips played 10 matches for the Sky Blues, starting in just two games. And the player scored a goal in one of those games, which was in the UEFA Champions League. Guardiola, in no way, can fit him into the squad despite liking the player.

On the other hand, English national team coach Gareth Southgate has shown a lot of faith in Philips. The player played six of the ten games last year for the Three Lions, scoring his only international goal. Philips is expected to be a part of England’s squad for the 2024 Euro in Germany.
