Alex Morgan‘s farewell game is turning out to be a box office event as it should be. Tonight’s San Diego Wave-NC Courage tie saw dramatic ticket sales within three hours of Morgan’s retirement announcement. Besides, in a first in women’s soccer, the NWSL will broadcast the Wave-Courage game simultaneously across multiple platforms to honor the two-time World champion. And a dime a dozen fans, especially young girls-aspiring soccer players have filled the Snapdragon Stadium with Alex’s #13 jerseys. But Morgan’s swan song is not picture-perfect.
History will remember that Alex Morgan played her last soccer match on an unclean pitch at San Diego’s home turf. Soccer journalist, Kamran Nia, who took to the Snapdragon Stadium, has shared snaps of the unprepared soccer pitch on X, just hours before the Wave-Courage tie kicks off. We could even see bottles and paper cups on the pitch. The Wave’s home turf is in such an unclean condition after it hosted a San Diego State University soccer match.

“Pitch conditions after an SDSU football game, not ideal,” Kamran Nia captioned his post on X. Since Alex Morgan’s swan song is the talk of the town right now, soccer fans on X took immediate note of the journalist’s post about the Snapdragon Stadium. And soccer fanatic netizens are rushing in crowds to call out the San Diego stadium staff for taking an easy route while cleaning the pitch.
Fans are angry and upset that Alex Morgan has to play her last on an unclean pitch
Fans are quite unhappy with the fact that the San Diego Wave is playing second fiddle to the SDSU, which owns the Snapdragon Stadium. Since Alex Morgan is facing such unprofessional conditions before her last dance, fans say in unison that the Wave stars deserve better. Let’s see how Morgan fans on the web are drawing daggers against the Snapdragon Stadium’s staff on X.

It’s Morgan’s final game.
It’s like the field crew literally just winged it in cleaning the field
Shameful, just shameful https://t.co/GH1axxeXsf

“It’s Morgan’s final game. It’s like the field crew literally just winged it in cleaning the field Shameful, just shameful,” a user wrote on X, responding to Kamran Nia’s tweet.
I’m starting to think San Diego State the university that owns the stadium doesn’t care about San Diego Wave. Once again they didn’t put the effort in to make the pitch look professional. It’s a bad look on @SDSU @PrezdelaTorre especially given this is Alex Morgan’s last game. https://t.co/4JQWo2136d

Indeed, a bad look at the stadium owners and its staff. Despite winning two World Cups and an Olympic gold with the USWNT, Alex Morgan has decided to have her swan song in a San Diego match. And this is how it turned out to be.
Disappointing but not surprising this @sandiegowavefc their players and fans deserve better than this. Playing second fiddle to a state school football program that is mid at best… https://t.co/yCYGfHbO2C

Bizarrely though, Alex Morgan’s last dance has given way for fans to call for a major change in the NWSL. Last year, the KC Current became the first team to build a facility solely for a women’s team. So, it’s not beyond the Wave to follow a similar route and be not mid anymore.
Can the San Diego wave just get their own stadium already? https://t.co/aW9JdKxXO3

I hope the people who run that stadium will never know peace. https://t.co/ta6qrnGyaC

A die-hard Morgan fan it seems, as they curse the Snapdragon Stadium owners. Indeed, peace has been long lost for the San Diego Wave. They are a bottom-half side and are now losing 1-3 to the NC Courage in Morgan’s Swan Song.
