The Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr FC made a massive coup this winter. They signed five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo, making him the highest-paid athlete. Al Nassr had high hopes after the signing. The club wanted to change its fortune after a few disappointing seasons. Saudi club last won the league title in the 2018-19 season. But it seems like the blockbuster signing mid-season isn’t helping the club. Al Nassr is second in the league table and has been knocked out of the Riyadh Super Cup and the Saudi Super Cup.

On Sunday, Al Nassr received a significant setback when 10-men Al Wehda knocked them out of the Saudi King Cup. It has left their talisman, Cristiano Ronaldo, disappointed with fans reacting to the loss and Ronaldo’s performance.

The latest loss to Al Wehda has raised questions over the impact of the five-time UEFA Champions League winner. Fans are questioning his decision to join Saudi Arabia. Many have called him to retire from soccer. One fan wrote, “Just retire, man. You’re finished. Messi had won the World Cup this year, and you got knocked out of the Saudi Super Cup.”

A few fans think he is on the decline for the last three years and wants him to take a wise decision instead of pushing to play. One of the fans thinks he has become irrelevant by joining the non-competitive league, while others took a dig at the player by saying he is settling nicely in the Gulf nation.

Ronaldo came to Saudi Arabia after a torrid start to the 2022-23 season with Manchester United and a disappointing World Cup. It has been a mixed start for his stint at Al Nassr. The Portuguese has been inconsistent for the Saudi club since joining and has received criticism regularly.
