Soccer can be tough. What was a series of a good few games may turn out to be a headache in the future. Such was the case with Al Nassr which had shown some great promise in a few matches but succumbed to losses when it came to crucial games. Consequently, it appears that one player who joined due to Cristiano Ronaldo could make his way out after a disappointing defeat in the King Cup final.

Recent reports suggest that Al Nassr will let go of its defender Alex Telles. According to one of the Saudi soccer news pages on X, the former Manchester United player is exiting the club only after a year of his arrival. Telles came to Riyadh on a 2-year contract worth approximately $9 million per year but will fall short of one year if he leaves.

This comes after the club finished the 2023-24 season without a single trophy except for the friendly Arab Cup. The Knights of Najd lost multiple titles this season to their Riyadh rivals who proved to be too strong for other Saudi clubs. Al Nassr lost the Saudi Pro League finishing second after Al Hilal by a massive 14-point margin, but had some golden opportunities to salvage a few trophies with the Saudi Super Cup and the Kings Cup. However, both of them had gone begging, with the last one hurting them and Telles.

Al Nassr’s loss in the King Cup during the penalty shootouts has left a few fans distraught about Alex Telles. The club made a respectable comeback after conceding the first goal to Aleksandar Mitrovic in just the seventh minute. However, it was a moment to forget for Alex Telles in the shootouts as he missed the clubs’ first attempt by skying it over the bar. Subsequently, the last two shots were also missed resulting in a painful loss for Cristiano Ronaldo who was left with tears. However, some supporters did not shy away from calling out Telles, asking him to be sold.

Meanwhile, the Brazilian confessed to joining Al Nassr due to Cristiano Ronaldo’s influence. The player stated that it was Ronaldo who messaged and motivated him to land in Riyadh when he was still at Manchester United. Telles had a few decent games while supporting the club’s backline. However, despite the significant financial investment, the club not clinching a trophy may lead to some tough decisions.
