There is no more interesting discussion in soccer than the never-ending greatest debate. Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi evoke passionate opinions worldwide. However, in an argument that often separates fans who strongly favor one player over the other, FC Barcelona star Joao Felix has played it safe and rather claims that “we should not compare Messi and Cristiano.”

The assertion was made during an interview with renowned journalist Gerard Romero. The former Atletico Madrid man was asked to dip his feet into the GOAT debate between the two legendary players. Interestingly, aside from refusing to take any one name, he further added, “We should enjoy them together. Preferring one over the other is very difficult. They both did very wonderful things that will not be repeated.”

Felix maintains neutrality as he acknowledges the achievements of both superstars. In fact, had he mentioned either of the two names, it would have stirred a furious debate in the soccer world. While the former Benfica man represents Barcelona on the domestic front, a club that worships Messi, he is a Portugal teammate of Ronaldo on the international stage. It’s, perhaps, a good that he refused to liken both, as it would have likely created a conflict of interest. However, even though Felix decided to take a safer option, his previous actions may contradict his current stance.

Without much hesitation, the Chelsea flop named Lionel Messi. Interestingly, this response came just hours before he was set to train alongside Ronaldo for the Euro qualifiers. Nevertheless, the Al Nassr star harbored no ill feelings. There’s anyway more to the story.

In another instance, Felix was tasked with creating his favorite squad. Once again, Ronaldo found himself excluded as Felix fervently listed Lionel Messi, Al Hilal star Neymar Jr., Manchester City and Os Navegadores playmaker Bernardo Silva, and himself. This may suggest a subtle message that the former Porto youth star favors La Pulga over CR7. Yet, recent comments from Felix may shed new light on his perspective.
