“This Is About Girls and Women” – Former American Gymnast Calls Out Megan Rapinoe for Her Stance on Trans Athletes

Megan Rapinoe is not afraid of speaking her mind. Last month, the USWNT star made a few comments about trans athletes competing in women’s categories. Recently, a well-known former American gymnast didn’t seem quite pleased with Rapinoe’s comments, calling the soccer icon out for her stance.

The gymnast was quick to reiterate the ‘physical’ advantage that trans athletes may have. Further, she expressed her fears that there wouldn’t be gender categories in sports if the current scenario were to continue.

Jennifer Sey calls out Megan Rapinoe for favoring trans-women!

Earlier, Rapinoe asked for ‘evidence’ proving that trans-women were taking scholarships and dominating every sport. She revealed that this wasn’t happening anywhere and termed any opposers to simply be ‘cruel’. As a result, just days ago, Jennifer Sey, a former gymnast turned writer, raised her concerns at the FreedomFest 2023 after hearing Rapinoe’s comments. Visibly, she couldn’t keep herself from chuckling.

Sey quoted, “I’m sorry, I have to collect myself”. She spoke about the time when the USWNT lost to a team of 15-year-old boys in 2017. “They lost. The best women’s soccer team in the world. There is an advantage. This is not trans bigotry. This is about girls and women”, she continued. Sey pointed out that males confer an advantage at their puberty stage.

That is the simple reason why the sports universe has gender categories. Sey continued, “Denying that is denying reality. So, I am very much in favor of protecting women’s sports. And giving women a fair and even playing field to compete against each other, access the educational opportunities that come from that”, as compiled by Outkick.

Jennifer Sey predicts the future if everything stays the same

Jennifer Sey was quite vocal about protecting the likes of women’s sports. She said, “If we don’t stand up now and defend women’s spaces, essentially what we’re agreeing to is there is no difference”. The former gymnast predicted that there would be ‘no categories’ in the future if nobody defends women’s sports.

Without any hesitation, Sey called out Rapinoe for her comments on trans athletes in women’s sports. Currently, at the Women’s World Cup, the USWNT star has not responded to her comments yet. This is not the first time that the soccer veteran has been in the limelight for a controversial topic. Earlier, her mother revealed that the 38-year-old once received death threats.
