France’s Ligue 1 remains at an interesting juncture. Aside from some entertaining games, one of the most compelling reasons to watch the league is its extraordinary players, and Kylian Mbappe is one of them. But the PSG star, the face of the French league, is rumored to leave next year. Amidst the speculations, a former rival of the Frenchman has urged France’s domestic league to give him the ‘means to win the Ballon d’Or.’

The lethal striker is in brilliant form so far this season, making 20 goal contributions in 20 games in all competitions for the Parisians. While it’s unclear if just scoring goals would be enough, Jean-Michel Aulas believes he will be a perfect candidate to win the Ballon d’Or title.

Former Olympique Lyonnais president Jean-Michel Aulas has ranked Kylian Mbappe as the top contender to win the Ballon d’Or. While speaking at Jacques Vendroux’s show on Europe 1, Aulas also expressed his wish to see the 24-year-old stay in Ligue 1, amid the exit rumors. He said, “I hope he stays in the French championship, he is the best current player. We don’t see players with so many qualities elsewhere and we must be able to give him the means to win the Ballon d’Or. He will have it, I am sure, now we were all disappointed for him last year,” as compiled by Foot Mercato. Kylian Mbappe might have cemented his place at the top, but he is yet to get his hands on a few awards.

One of them is the Ballon d’Or. Notably, the Frenchman finished third in this year’s award behind Lionel Messi and Erling Haaland. While Aulas wants Mbappe to clinch the Ballon d’Or as a Ligue 1 player, one of his country’s legendary players has urged him to leave PSG for a bigger club to cement his chances of winning the iconic award. What does that contrasting opinion exactly talk about?

Former French soccer player and Olympiacos sporting director Christian Karembeu has encouraged Kylian Mbappe “to go to a bigger club” to win the Ballon d’Or. He cited Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as instances of players who clinched the Ballon d’Or while representing powerhouse clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively.

Additionally, Karembeu suggested that the Frenchman could potentially secure the prestigious award even if he continues playing for PSG. “But maybe he will be with Paris Saint Germain and winning the Ballon d’Or so doesn’t matter it’s only about performances and he’s showing the world that he is capable,” concluded the former Real Madrid player.
