Europe’s top court has ruled in the European Super League’s favor, citing that UEFA’s control over European soccer is an illegal monopoly. Subsequently, in a gesture celebrating the verdict, Bernd Reichart, the CEO of European Super League promoters, A22, said that the competition would be broadcast freely for all the fans. Reichart’s bold statement, however, did not sit well with La Liga president Javier Tebas. He was quick to mock Reichart with harsh criticism and a reality check.

While stating his version of the European court’s verdict, Javier Tebas insulted Bernd Reichart, saying he might be drunk to make such a claim.

Replying to Reichart’s statement on a free broadcast of Super League, Javier Tebas wrote, “For the sake of clarity, there is no doubt and some mistakenly go to reopen the bar to drink drinks until 5 am as it seems that Bern Reichart CEO has been tonight,” on his X account. Furthermore, Tebas laid bare his interpretation of the Court of Justice of the European Union verdict. Tebas highlighted the court ruled that the rules of admissions in FIFA and UEFA must be transparent, but has not openly asked the governing bodies to admit the Super League.

Tebas pointed out that the admissions should be transparent, objective, and non-discriminatory. The La Liga president further dragged dirt on the Super League, saying these notions of transparency are least compatible with the proposed Super League. Nevertheless, Bernd Reichart is celebrating the court verdict. In addition to claiming A22 will freely broadcast the Super League, he also stated that clubs need not be scared or threatened by UEFA’s monopoly anymore. But are clubs really free to join the UEFA Champions League’s possible rival? Not really.
