Life comes at you fast, doesn’t it? Turns out, Marcus Rashford finds himself in a similar situation, becoming the subject of criticism. “He’s your center-forward that can take you to a title or a Champions League” — this was Jamie Carragher’s opinion in 2019 of the English striker. Fast-forwarding to today, Rashford is entangled in drama over his late-night party saga in Belfast, despite being labelled ill for his side’s FA Cup clash. This situation prompted Carragher to make a U-turn, insisting that Manchester United now requires someone who is ‘a level up’! This candid declaration was made in Sky Bet’s latest podcast, ‘Stick to Football: The Overlap.’

The popular panel of Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Ian Wright, and Roy Keane discussed Marcus Rashford’s disciplinary issues. Carragher admitted that there is nothing ‘worse‘ than seeing someone not fulfill their potential. While heaping praise over his pace and right foot attributes, the pundit said, “I feel for him a little bit because I’ve always said this, for me, if Rashford is Manchester United’s best player, which I’d probably say he is, or best attacker, I don’t think Man United can win anything big and that’s not a criticism of him.” Despite the individual talent that Rashford has exhibited previously, Carragher believes that Mr. MBE won’t solely lead the Red Devils to glory.

“I just think they’d probably need someone a level up. He’s almost like your second or third guy in that front three and Man United then can win a [Premier] League or a Champions League and I just feel there’s that much sort of pressure and scrutiny on him to be the guy who gets the goal,” concluded Carragher. If the Liverpool icon’s words brought discontent to Marcus Rashford’s face, well, he was in for a double blow. Fellow pundit and Manchester United veteran Roy Keane also took a dig at the 26-year-old.

Despite feeling for him, Roy Keane questions Marcus Rashford’s behavior and intent

Although Marcus Rashford gained support and empathy from Roy Keane around the recent controversy, with Keane claiming that everyone has been in his position, making ‘daft‘ mistakes, and doing worse than that, he stated, “I’ve never thought for one minute that he’s some nasty bad lad.” He believes Rashford has committed a lot of mistakes and the fact that United is struggling makes him an easy target.

Slamming the 26-year-old’s poor decision-making, Keane said, “I don’t think his attitude is one of not caring about the game…but his behavior is that of an idiot,” added the Irish soccer icon. Notably, Marcus Rashford scored a 5th-minute opener in his side’s 3-4 victory last night against Wolves in the English Premier League. Nevertheless, a resurgence of his performances on the pitch seems like the only hope for him. Otherwise, he is in for huge trouble.
