Over the years, a lot of emerging talent has been dubbed the ‘Next Lionel Messi‘. This isn’t some ordinary praise; it comes with an immense responsibility, as everyone expects you to live up to the hype. Over the years, a lot of players have done their best to meet these dynamics. However, none have come as close as Jamal Musiala!
The 21-year-old German star has become one of the hottest young prospects in soccer with his consistent performances for Bayern Munich. The youngster has been in sublime form in the last two years, emerging as one of the most exciting playmakers. Bayern legend Lothar Matthaus even went one step ahead of everyone back in 2022, as he claimed Musiala has what it takes to become ‘The Next Lionel Messi’.

Well, it doesn’t seem like the German is too fond of the comparisons, expressing his thoughts on the same in an exclusive interview with Spanish media outlet Marca. Commenting on the ongoing ‘Lionel Messi’ comparisons, Musiala stated, “I don’t know, I don’t think I can compare anything with Messi and that is almost an impossible mission. I think comparing myself to Leo or any other player is in vain. I take my profession year by year and continue working to try to be better and win titles for my team. Only then will they arrive safely.”
Jamal Musiala has had an impressive career for Bayern Munich with the player making a name for himself. The German has already made over 150 appearances for the Bavarians, establishing himself as one of the top players for the club. However, the recent poor string of results could turn the player away from the club with top European elites interested in his signatures.

Pep Guardiola and Manchester City are said to be keen admirers of the German playmaker and believe he could be the perfect replacement for the aging Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian has become injury-prone in the past year, with the playmaker spending almost seven months on the sidelines this season. City feels Musiala could perfectly fit in with the team and adjust as a central attacking midfielder in the Spaniard’s system.
However, while Manchester City may be interested in Musiala, Bayern is in no rush to sell the player. The German club has held negotiations with Jamal Musiala and his camp as they hope to sign the player to a new contract. Moreover, if Manchester City wants to sign the midfielder, they could be forced to break their all-time transfer record to acquire his services.
