German fans will be on cloud nine following their team’s dominant win over Scotland. The Euro 2024 hosts made the most of the home advantage as they picked up a 5-1 win to start off the coveted tournament. The win also held special value for fans, as this was the first time in eight years that Germany won their opening game in the Euros.

Moreover, Julian Nagelsmann seemed to have got everything right as his players cruised past Steve Clark’s Scotland. Florian Wirtz opened the scoring for his team, becoming the youngest German player to score in the process. His goal was followed by a stunning goal by Jamal Musiala, who didn’t wait long to double the team’s lead.

Things didn’t stop there as Niklas Fullkrug bagged the fourth goal for his side thanks to a brilliant assist from Ilkay Gundogan. While Scotland did get a goal back, Germany did not let the happiness stand for long with Emre Can driving the final nail in the coffin with a fifth goal in the 93rd minute.

The German head coach opened on his aspiration for the tournament in an official interview with UEFA. Nagelsmann stated, “The normal ambition: we want to win it. It’s the same in all other tournaments. It’s probably not best for us to make this big claim that we’re going to become European champions. I think it’s the same for every country that participates. Otherwise, they wouldn’t put in the work to qualify. Every team that gets into the tournament has the idea of winning it.”

Germany is now one step closer to their dream following the massive win over Scotland. The hosts now just need a win over Hungary or Switzerland to take them through to the next stages of the tournament. Do you think Germany has what it takes to lift the Euros? Sound off in the comments below.
