Jadon Sancho has finally hit the restart button. After returning from Manchester United to his former club, Borussia Dortmund, on loan in the winter transfer window, the England international has a clean slate to regain his lost stardom. With all eyes on the winger, a former England icon asserts that Sancho has the potential to ‘make people look silly who hammered him.’

In the latest segment of Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE, Anton Ferdinand, Danny Murphy, and Flex discussed Jadon Sancho’s return to Signal Iduna Park. Interestingly, Flex presented a fan question about who will have the ‘last laugh’ between Sancho and Erik ten Hag. To this, Murphy replied, “The answer to that is completely in Sancho’s hands. If he gets his nut down and works like a Trojan and takes all this stuff, that’s happened at Man United as a motivation to show people what he’s really about, then in two or three… well, no season and half season.”

The former English midfielder claimed that if the 23-year-old manages to get enough minutes in these last six months of this season and again goes back in the summer, ‘he can be what he wants to be.’ Murphy heaped praise over Sancho’s ‘lovely’ balance and speed on the ball, insisting the player is calm during the final third in terms of passing. The ex-Liverpool star added, “He’s in a confident space and on a team that appreciates him—players around him who support what he does. He’s got the potential to be able to make people look silly who hammered him.”

Erik ten Hag breaks silence over the exit of Jadon Sancho

Erik ten Hag, who had refused to reintegrate Jadon Sancho into his plans, was confronted about the player’s departure. Before the game against Spurs, he was asked if he had any messages for the winger. Interestingly, he succinctly replied, “I hope he is doing well”. The reply may have been understated, but it doesn’t indicate that he would not be monitoring the progress of the Englishman at Dortmund.

Additionally, in a brief interview with Sky Sports, ten Hag acknowledged that Sancho had ‘issues,’ further remarking that he wasn’t successful. The former Ajax coach also stated that things would have been different if he had publicly apologized. Nevertheless, it seems Sancho won’t look back now as he looks to come back on track.
