It can jeopardize the hopes if a key player might not join a team as they seek the greatest feat. USWNT is facing such a situation. A couple of days back, the Stars and Stripes faced Ireland in a friendly match. They did win 2-0 but to the absolute horror of all fans, star striker Mallory Swanson got injured. The entire team, including Alex Morgan, stood in shock as Swanson was screaming, laying on the ground in pain.
The pursuit of the coveted feat would now be a bit trickier, although there is no statement from the team, organization, or even her NWSL team on her condition. The chances of her joining the team for the tournament seem scarce.

No one has any idea if she will be coming back before the tournament or not. Amid all the discussion, the team will have to play the 2nd match in three days. That will be the last time they will assemble the roaster before they join the camps for FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia.
Alex Morgan talked about Mallory’s injury
In a QNA session right after the match, a fan asked Alex Morgan about Swanson’s injury, and like all her peers, she had no idea if its season-ending or not. Although, she did reflect on how she felt as she saw the USWNT sensation go down in agony in front of her eyes.
When asked, Alex Morgan said, “It’s really hard to see Mal go down in pain like that before the World Cup. So, we just have to hope that she will be good for it.” Clearly, they all understand that this is an enormous blow for the team. A lot of their offense had rested on Mallory Swanson’s shoulders.

While they might have to scramble and prepare a new game plan for the team, they have had some good news from the midfield. USWNT legend Julie Ertz is back on the team, and Morgan didn’t forget to mention and talk about that.
USWNT’s defense just got a buff
With Defensive legend Julie Ertz joining back the team, they have become an even stronger defensive force. Even the USMNT legend Alexi Lalas couldn’t stop himself from talking about her return. On his podcast, he said, “If she can come back even to an 80% level, that still gives me more confidence for the US midfield,” along with other compliments for the returning megastar.
