USA’s FIFA World Cup campaign comes to an end after a defeat against the Netherlands. The USMNT missed out on the World Cup last time around. However, they did qualify in style for the Qatar World Cup. They bagged a total of 5 points in three games in the group stages, qualifying for the knockouts. However, they faced a tough Dutch side that has been a dominant force in the world of soccer. After a defeat, the USMNT will be heading back home.

The Netherlands started the game with an early goal from Memphis Depay. They had a few more chances to bury it home and finally got their 2nd late in the first half. Daley Blind made it 2-0 at half-time. However, after constant pressure, the USA pulled one back through super-sub Haji Wright.
The USA had its own chances to score in the 2nd half. However, they couldn’t put it back in the net. Dumfries scored the Netherlands’ 3rd of the night, booking their seats for the Quarterfinals. US fans were disappointed after the loss while other fans fired shots at the US side.

The USMNT will now be heading back home after making it to the Round of 16 for only the 5th time in their history. However, it was a historic effort from a young side in the World Cup. They had one of the youngest rosters in the competition alongside Spain.
The Netherlands has qualified for the Quarter-finals of the World Cup thanks to a Dumfries masterclass. Denzel Dumfries bagged two assists and ended the game with a goal to sink the US. The Dutch side will now face the winners of Australia vs Argentina in the quarterfinal fixture.
