Just 7 hours are remaining for the biggest UEFA Euro game so far, as Portugal faces France in a ‘final before the final’ game. Besides the rich soccer legacy these teams bear, the world is eager to watch the modern-day superstar Kylian Mbappe face his idol, Cristiano Ronaldo in a do-or-die matchup. This will perhaps be the last time the fan will face the idol. Amid all this build-up, Portugal ace Bernardo Silva overlooked the frenzy surrounding Ronaldo and Mbappe. For Silva, the two teams remain the heroes, rather than the two heavyweight players.

During a pre-game presser, a reporter asked Bernardo Silva, if he views the Cristiano Ronaldo-Kylian Mbappe faceoff as a ‘passing of the baton.’ “Definitely two unbelievable players at different stages of their careers. Cristiano, one of the best players that’s ever played the game. Kylian, still going through the beginning, middle of his career. But the most important thing, it is not about them. It is about Portugal and France. And Portugal, we as a team want to qualify for the semi-finals,” said Bernardo Silva in response, as per talkSport.

Bernardo Silva then concluded his presser by speaking about Cristiano Ronaldo’s penalty miss against Slovenia. He said the Portuguese skipper was also a human and was prone to making errors like everybody else. Meanwhile, Ronaldo has earlier echoed Silva’s hope for Portugal to progress saying Portugal is ready to go on “war” against France. Ronaldo also recently hinted that the ongoing UEFA Euro will be his last. Kylian Mbappe, who has a lot more tournaments left, said that it will be an honor to face CR7 once again on the big stage.

Mbappe on battling his idol Cristiano Ronaldo for perhaps the last time

“It’s a pleasure. Playing against him[Ronaldo] is an honor for everything he’s done in football,” said Kylian Mbappe in a pre-game presser. He added that he and Cristiano Ronaldo constantly stay in touch. He even revealed that Ronaldo closely follows his game and gives him advice to get better. Notably, the Al Nassr captain was on cloud nine to see Mbappe follow in his footsteps and join Real Madrid. Expressing his happiness on the move, Ronaldo said he couldn’t wait to see Mbappe “light up” Madrid’s home ground, Santiago Bernabeu.

“No matter what happened before or what happens after, he’ll always be a legend of the game. But of course we hope to win tomorrow and reach the semi-finals,” Mbappe added. Ronaldo and Mbappe faced each other on four occasions for club and country. During his Madrid stint, Ronaldo twice beat Mbappe and PSG in the UEFA Champions League. The two have met each other in France-Portugal ties in the UEFA Nations League and the 2021 UEFA Euro. Both those games ended in a draw. Since this game is a knockout, only one will prevail. Let’s see if it is the idol or the idolizer.
