Several players have made a massive impact when it comes to sports in the United States. However, no non-American player has been as successful as Lionel Messi for moving the needle. The Inter Miami skipper has breathed new life into soccer in the country, bringing in among the most watched leagues in the nation.
Inter Miami general manager Xavier Asensi commented on Lionel Messi’s impact in an exclusive interview with EFE Sports Business. Comparing the Argentine with legends like Tom Brady and Michael Jordan, Xavier stated, “Yes, but he doesn’t play. At another level of influence, so does our owner, Jorge Más. Of course, everything helps, but we are talking about the best player of all time. It’s like being able to say you’ve seen Tiger Woods play, or Michael Phelps swim, or Usain Bolt run, or watch Michael Jordan or Tom Brady.”
He then continued, “We are contemporaries of something that is happening here and now. Every weekend, the United States has him playing in their professional league. We are talking about the greatest of all time who is active and playing.”

While fans are keen on watching La Pulga in action, celebrities are no different. Inter Miami has been flooded by requests from A-listers during their home and away games, with prominent names such as Usain Bolt and Patrick Mahomes going out of their way to get a glimpse of the Argentine.
Patrick Mahomes opens up on meeting Lionel Messi
It’s hard to imagine someone like Patrick Mahomes getting nervous while meeting another athlete. However, the NFL superstar could not hold his nerves earlier last month while meeting Lionel Messi for the first time. During his appearance on Logan Paul’s Impaulsive, the Kansas City Chiefs reflected on his interaction with the Inter Miami skipper.
Mahomes stated, “So I was walking down the hall and they’re walking in a tight hallway. He’s going to warm up. What am I supposed to say? (I said) ‘Have fun out there’ and he had a goal and an assist, so I feel like he had a great time, he had fun, it was all on me.”
Several high-profile celebrities have been present during Inter Miami’s games this season as the Argentine continues to put up historic numbers for the Herons. The David Beckham-owned franchise is currently on top of the MLS Eastern Conference standings and has emerged as the favorite for the title this season.
