There are soccer ads where rival players often feature against each other. But, one hilarious Gatorade ad from 2018 has best buddies Messi and Suarez pitted against each other during their time together at FC Barcelona. They did the ad as the company was the official energy drink partner of the club. The ad starts with their bond as teammates. However, things quickly changes and they become enemies when it came to national teams. Messi decides to unfollow Suarez on Instagram. He then describes the relationship as “It’s complicated,” whereas, Suarez makes the news for selling Messi’s jersey online for only $2. Messi even takes revenge by making his dog pee outside Suarez’s house.
The ad ends with both of them making their way to the stadium for a game against each other. It ends with the tagline Everything changes, except what is inside them. The ad did well in the media as it launched the ad during the 2018 World Cup in Russia. So the rivalry between both of them made sense. This was the biggest ad for Gatorade in their decade-long history. The ad sort of increased the visibility of the energy drink in Latin America because of the presence of its top stars.
Nonetheless, soccer fans will always remain thankful that they never became enemies in real life. The Barca fans still remember their goals and trophies for the club in their stint together.
