She detailed, “Yes, we have been introduced to many many opportunities that we are looking at. In real time, right now, we are seeing Toronto. Because everything, we do, we do together. And there is, yeah, there is definitely interest. I think there will be more to be able to share and have excitement about in the coming months. But it’s all happening fast.”

Significantly, the NWSL has 14 teams right now and expansion plans came after the league’s success. High attendance numbers and landmark broadcasting deals accelerated the league’s ambitions to multiply the number of teams. As Morgan examined, one such potential location is Toronto.

It’s home to some of the best sports franchises in the world, like the NBA team Toronto Raptors, or the NHL team Toronto Maple Leafs, who won 13 Stanley Cups. Similarly, a team in Toronto promises more revenue and passion.

Likewise, in densely populated areas, the multicultural city will have fans who would want their own sports teams. The 2026 FIFA World Cup has a venue in Toronto, which aids in promoting soccer.

Just like Alex Morgan, there are multiple players of the USWNT owning soccer franchises. Namely, Carli Lloyd has a minority share with Kevin Durant’s NJ/NY Gotham FC. Megan Rapinoe’s partner Sue Bird also has a minority stake in the same team. Similarly, the players from the golden generation of the 99 USWNT, Mia Hamm and Abby Wambach, are part of the long list of owners of Angel City FC who have work to do in this NWSL season standing in 10th place.
