FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 is just a couple of months away and things are already heating up. It all began with FIFA’s president putting out a big statement about broadcasters in various European countries. Leaving soccer fans and players in turmoil, Gianni Infantino threatened a World Cup Blackout.
Infantino criticized broadcasters from various countries for allegedly offering 100 times less money to broadcast the tournament than the men’s one. He threatened that the organization will take a firm stand and if the offers isn’t updated, multiple nations will face a World Cup blackout.
The statements have led fans, pundits, and players to a very heated debate. Almost everyone has some sort of opinion to lay on this ongoing saga. With less and less time every day for the kick-off fans are speculating which side will budge first if they did. Meanwhile, a star player has some sharp remarks on the FIFA boss for his controversial statement.

Soccer star criticized FIFA president
Following a declaration of war against Broadcaster in half of Europe, FIFA president Gianni Infantino has seemed to acquire some crosshairs on himself. One such name who came out to have a shot on the boss is German captain Alexandra Popp.

She said, “With Mr. Infantino, you get the feeling that it’s all about money and who is the most powerful in the world. Of course we are aware that we play at different times at the other end of the world. But I think if people are really serious about us, they don’t have to think twice about broadcasts.”

She was joined by her teammate Almuth Schult, who had similar thoughts on the FIFA president. In an article the goalkeeper wrote, she insinuated that the FIFA President should find a consensus instead of blaming and letting money and greed do the talking.

There is no follow-up update from FIFA yet. World Cup 2023 is set to be hosted by Australia and New Zealand. The tournament will kickoff in late July and go on till the last week of August. The USWNT will be eyeing a historic feat as they aim for the coveted trophy. Only time will tell if European fans get to witness that or not.
