Ryan Reynolds’ takeover of Welsh soccer club Wrexham AFC was certainly joyous news for the town and fans of the club. In celebration of this takeover, a famous North Wales carver Simon O’Rourke carved a wooden sculpture of Ryan Reynold’s iconic Marvel anti-hero character, Deadpool.

The sculpture was originally kept at Wrexham after Reynolds’ takeover of the team in 2021. However, last year the decision was made to put the statue up for auction, with all proceeds going to charity. Now, it has finally found its new home.

The highest bidder for the figure was Steve Moore, who lives in Birmingham. Moore initially failed to respond to attempts to contact him. Simon thought if he couldn’t collect it then it would be given to Wrexham’s Turf pub for display.

Steve agreed to this idea, reminiscing about the time he worked in Wrexham 35 years ago. Steve said, “The sculpture belongs at the turf and I hope it will be enjoyed there for years to come.” Pub landlord Wayne Jones believes the sculpture will be a “huge hit”.

“I also think it’ll be a huge hit with the tourists and kids,” Wayne said. He further added, “I am sure Ryan would love it and be appreciative of the amount of time and effort that’s gone into making it”. The statue is definitely a great attraction and a great way to commemorate Reynolds’ takeover of the soccer club.

Reynolds, first made headlines when he bought the historic but struggling fifth-division soccer club. Since then, the club has seen a marked improvement in its fortunes. Wrexham is now eyeing promotion to the fourth division and made a historic run to the final 32 of the FA Cup.

None of this would have been possible without Reynolds’ involvement. The actor has invested heavily in the club, making new signings and attending matches. It’s been a remarkable turnaround for a club that was on the brink of extinction just a few years ago.
