When we speak about the mismatch between talent and achievement, we hear about Neymar. Known as one of the most skilled players, Neymar could literally do anything with the ball. But considering his run at all levels of sports, it was rather adventurous than stable. After a tough World Cup campaign, Neymar’s chance for resurgence may have taken a hit with injuries. An analyst also evaluated, without much positivity, his availability for the next Copa America to provide vital information to the fans.

Brazil had a horrendous couple of games during the international break. But the story has been declining for the last few years. The last time they won a World Cup was in 2002, and they did not seem close to winning another. With Neymar being their best talent for the last few years, the future with him looks a little bleak.

The first two rounds of the World Cup 2026 qualifiers ended sweetly for the Canarinhos. The two wins included a 5-goal victory against Bolivia in the opener. But the next set has proved to be a disaster. After the criticism from the first game, nothing could have been worse for the nation to face a 2-0 defeat. Adding to the pain, Neymar may not be available for the Copa America 2024, as per analyst Luis Miguel Echegaray.

In a recent episode on ESPN FC, Luis said, “Neymar is out, and obviously he has a history with injuries, so it’s not looking good. It was a horrible moment for him. Obviously, we wish him the very best, but I do not think he’ll be ready for Copa America.”

Joined by a senior Italian journalist, Gab Marcotti, and a former junior soccer player, Nedum Onuoha, Luis was worried about Neymar’s comeback. Neymar had injuries throughout his career, but this time he suffered another injury this year against Uruguay. Diagnosing it as ACL, the medical staff is hoping for him to be back by Copa America in June 2024.

However, Luis says that the medical staff is too optimistic, as the seriousness of the injury will take more time to cure. Luis also said, “The Medics are hoping for an 8-month recovery, hoping to get him ready for Copa America; of course, that’s insanely optimistic.” “That’s just very optimistic, so it’s normally a 9- to 12-month situation here.”

Brazil has options to replace Neymar

As Neymar will be out for the longest time in his career, Brazil will look for a suitable replacement. Its interim coach, Diniz, will look to work on developing other players. Luis also mentioned that Brazil has many options to replace Neymar in case of his failure to recover by June. Players Rodrygo and Martinelli can get more opportunities in the case of Neymar’s absence.

Neymar was at the forefront of receiving the fans’ wrath after their draw against Venezuela in the third game. Even though Neymar assisted the only goal scored by Gabriel, the home crowd vented their frustration by throwing popcorn at the Al Hilal star. But the second game has totally taken him by surprise with this devastating blow that could trigger a softer corner in fans.
