Before Messi’s arrival, the Designated Player of Inter Miami was Pizarro. Not anymore! According to Miami Herald, Pizarro stated in disappointment, “We all know with the moves the team is making that that there’s a possibility any of us could be gone to another team and we’ll see what happens the next few days. It is strange and has happened to former teammates. They are here one day, gone the next. I think this is the only league in the world that does this, but these are the rules, and we must follow them.”

The Designated Player rule suggests a team can sign up to three players. The player’s wages can be paid beyond the salary cap of the league. It helps the MLS compete with the other European leagues in bringing in world-class players. When Pizarro arrived at the club, he received a contract of $3.35 million per year. But compared to Messi’s, it is just peanuts. The Argentinian will earn over $60 million per year. As per reports, he is being traded to the LA Galaxy.
Pizarro, Leo Campana, and Gregore are currently the club’s three designated players. With rumors of Messi’s teammates like Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba looking to sign for the MLS side, there could be departures from the club.

Before Messi’s arrival, the Mexican became the first designated player of the team. He scored seven goals and created 13 assists in 58 games. But, the club has not performed well in recent times, and things have not worked out for the club. It’s difficult for a player to adjust to the new surroundings but having to leave the club soon. Thus, Pizarro is confused about the rule and wants a change.
