Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney changed the landscape of Wrexham AFC since they took over. Be it on-field or off-field success, the takeover has resulted in an unprecedented paradigm impact for the Red Dragons. For starters, the Welsh club last season ended their 15-year absence from League 2.

As far as off-pitch success is concerned, things are even better for them. Last week, they hit the coveted milestone of 1 million followers on Instagram. Moreover, their documentary ‘Welcome to Wrexham‘ was a super hit, making them a household name in America. For the players, however, these massive happenings are still to sink in. For many, the US pre-season tour was a surreal eye-opener about the Red Dragons’ massive popularity.

In a recent interview with The Athletic, Ben Foster vividly revealed his experience in the US pre-season tour. The former Manchester United goalie marked the tour as thrilling, with the major surprise being the love showered on the Welsh team by the American soccer fans. He explained this with a cute airport story.

It is mad to see,” said Ben. “We landed in Washington D.C. and were all queueing in passport control and there’s American kids there who all knew who we were. You’d pass them in the line and they’d say, ‘I have a Wrexham top at home’,” shared the goalie in awe.

The US pre-season tour was a big help for Ben Foster as he gets enough time to warm up for the season, unlike last season. Last season, Foster joined the Red Dragons under incredible circumstances as he came out of retirement with no minutes under his belt to help Wrexham in the last leg of the campaign.

The goalkeeper, hence naturally, was thrilled to be part of the pre-season. The 40-year-old believed that it would help him elevate his performance to another level. “I was really happy with my form, to be honest with you. But when you have got a whole pre-season behind you of solid goalkeeper training, hopefully, you will see a bit more next season as well,” said the goalie optimistically as per Leader Live.
