Kylian Mbappe has been blowing hot and cold on several things. Aside from contemplating his domestic future with Paris Saint-Germain, the striker has been waffling over whether he should play in the Summer Olympics for France or not. Amidst the uncertainty, one of his compatriots expressed that Mbappe is unlikely to compete in both the Euro and the Olympics, citing ‘he’s not a robot.’

This was debated in the latest installment of the ‘L’ÉQUIPE de Greg’ show, hosted by Gregory Ascher, who invited RC Lens star Charlotte Lorgere. Ascher inquired about the 29-year-old’s discontent regarding the news of Mbappe playing in the Olympics. While backing the striker as the best player in the world, she said, “He remains human; he’s not a robot. For me, it’s impossible for him to make the Euro by playing every match for 90 minutes [in the Olympics], hoping that France goes the furthest.”

Lorgere insisted that he simultaneously cannot do the same with PSG. While acknowledging that Deschamps might ask Kylian Mbappe to ‘go ahead’ for the Olympics, the Euro remains a priority. Although there won’t be any kind of physical impact, it’s still ‘impossible‘ for Lorgere to see him play at the Paris Olympics. I think it is impossible for a club to accept that Mbappe plays the Euro and the Olympic Games. So, it’s interesting,” she concluded. Instead, she believes that one of Mbappe’s PSG teammates can play in both competitions.

She made a mention of Warren Zaire-Emery. This is because the involvement of the 17-year-old will be less in the Euro. Either way, the question remains whether Kylian Mbappe will have to skip the competition or not. Let’s hear what his national coach, Didier Deschamps, has to say.

Deschamps’ unclear response on Kylian Mbappe’s 2024 Olympic plans

When questioned about the potential participation of Kylian Mbappe in the Olympic Games, Didier Deschamps responded, “Ask the players, they will all tell you that they want to play both! But maybe that won’t be possible for some.” Deschamps clarified that he had no issues with Mbappe or any other player competing in the Olympics. Notably, the UEFA Euro will commence on June 14 and end on July 14. Meanwhile, the Olympics will run from July 26, 2024, until August 11, 2024.

This time frame physically doesn’t allow Kylian Mbappe to get enough rest, which may even result in him getting sidelined due to injury. Perhaps, just like he has set a deadline to decide his domestic future, we might hear an answer from him very soon. Already, he is in the final six months of his contract with PSG, which means there’s not much time left for the World Cup winner until he provides the fanbase with clarity.
