In soccer, the jersey number on the back of the players holds great significance. Everyone is now accustomed to the fact that each number on the jersey means something. Typically, one is for goalkeepers, while ten is for important. For instance, the soccer world has seen many great players including Lionel Messi, Diego Maradona, and Ronaldinho, donning the iconic number 10.

While Maradona and Ronaldinho are retired, currently Messi has become synonymous with this revered number. Though he left the Catalans to wear the unlikely no 30 at PSG, he continues to don the number for his national side. While there’s no answer as to who will take the number, this legendary player wants the number to get retired after Messi adjourns his international career.

Messi inherited the iconic number 10 from both Maradona and Ronaldinho. The 35-year-old has proudly worn it for both his club, FC Barcelona, and the Argentine national team. In the eyes of everyone, it was La Pulga, who was the true heir to the throne and legacy that Maradona left. However, there’s still a bigger question as to who will wear it after Messi retires.

Well, former Argentinian star, Oscar Garré has advised his country’s soccer federation to retire the number 10 after Messi decides to end his international journey.

As stated by TNT Sports, while talking to Madero Sport, he said, “Today it is difficult to think who can use the 10 if Messi does not continue. I don’t think anyone should use it, because it is heavy and has a history. Surely there will be guys with personality to ask for it, but behind it comes that Diego and Messi wore it.”
