The summer has been one of celebration and success for Wrexham AFC. Following their thrilling victory in the National League, ending a 15-year title drought, the club and its fans have been basking in the glory of their achievements. The Hollywood owners, Ryan Reynolds, and Rob McElhenney, have brought renewed energy and optimism to the club. However, amidst the joy and optimism, a cloud of disappointment has now descended upon the team.

Currently, on their pre-season tour in the United States, Wrexham is utilizing this valuable time to fine-tune their skills and prepare for the upcoming EFL League Two season. With only 13 days left until their season opener, every training session and friendly match counts. The team’s recent 5-0 defeat against Chelsea came as a bitter pill to swallow. A more pressing concern has surfaced in the form of a major injury update regarding Wrexham’s star defender, Jordan Tunnicliffe.

Jordan Tunnicliffe played a pivotal role in the team’s promotion last season. Unfortunately, the star defender has been sidelined with a calf injury. This injury has plagued Tunnicliffe not only in the recent match against Chelsea, where he could not play but also in the team’s impressive 4-0 victory over LA Galaxy. Despite the injury being deemed as not serious, the extent of his recovery remains uncertain.

To further compound matters, it has been confirmed that Tunnicliffe will not be available for Wrexham’s first match of the season against MK Dons on 5th August. Understandably, manager Phil Parkinson expressed his disappointment. “He has a problem with his calf and we scanned it out here,” Parkinson said. “Not a serious injury but he will be out for a couple of weeks. He definitely won’t be fit for the start of the season”.

The Englishman further added, “It is a shame for Jordan”. Going deep into the injury reason he added, “He hadn’t really recovered from a back problem. And probably has just not been moving as smoothly as he normally does. That’s probably what has caused the calf issue”. As Ryan Reynolds’ side grapples with this disappointment, they will need to regroup and consider alternative options to fill the defensive void left by Tunnicliffe’s absence.

And the one who can very well do this is Wrexham’s latest signing Will Boyle. As the countdown to the season opener continues, all eyes will be on Wrexham’s progress and the performance of the team. We’ll have to see how the team copes with this injury update.
