Wrexham had an outstanding run in the League Two this season. While no one expected much from the Welsh side following their promotion from the National League, Phil Parkinson‘s side proved their critics wrong by securing consecutive promotions. The fixture also saw Wrexham lock horns against their former rivals Grimsby Town.
Before their League Two encounters, the teams last faced each other in the National League Qualifiers in 2022. Despite their form heading into the game, the Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney co-owned side were beaten 5-4 ending their hopes of moving up to the EFL. Two seasons later, Wrexham paid the debt in full with the side Grimsby 3-0 in a highly anticipated rematch.

Paul Mullin leveled things up just 2 minutes into the second half with a sensational goal. Both times tried to get the winning goal and just when it looked like the game might end in a draw, Andy Cannon pulled out an absolute screamer in the 88th minute to send the Racecourse into a frenzy. The team seemed elated after the win, with fans applauding the team for their scintillating performance.
Both Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds will hope that the players can display the same amount of grit and determination in the upcoming season as they look to make a mark in their return to League One after almost two decades.
