Emma Hayes encountered significant criticism online for excluding Triple Espresso from the USWNT’s upcoming European tour. However, after watching the NWSL final, particularly Trinity Rodman’s performance, it becomes evident why the USWNT coach made that harsh decision. As the match between Orlando Pride and Washington Spirit concluded a successful season, concerns surrounding the Washington Spirit forward have also emerged.
You may recall an alarming moment in September when visuals of Trinity Rodman being wheeled away in a chair surfaced. The USWNT player reportedly endured a severe back injury but demonstrated her resilience by returning to play a few weeks later. Yet, it seems that she has not completely shaken off the repercussions of that injury.
As highlighted by writer Claire Watkins on X, during the NWSL final match, Trinity was often seen favoring her back while out of action for some time. Although she appeared eager to fight for her team’s victory in clinching the title, it’s apparent that remnants of her injury linger.

Trinity Rodman is holding her back pretty clearly away from the action. She's fine, but she's also clearly not. Gutting it out for a shot at a title.

Numerous fans have voiced their worries on social media; one commented, “It was obvious after she took that shot at the top of the box. Ouch.” Another expressed similar apprehension: “It’s clear she hasn’t been 100% in the last couple of games.” These are concerns that led to her not being chosen for the previous Friendly camp, and why Trinity Rodman has also been excluded from the upcoming match against England.
The USWNT federation clarified its decision to omit Triple Espresso by stating, “All are dealing with nagging injuries that need rest after a long year representing club and country,” And it looks like Emma Hayes’ worries regarding her situation may indeed be validated.

Even so, the 22-year-old opted to participate in the entire game against the Orlando Pride. Although the match resulted in a loss for her, her supporters can take comfort in the fact that she poured every effort into it, despite facing fitness challenges. Now that’s impressive! As fans, we can only hope this doesn’t lead to any long-term effects for Trinity Rodman.
