The Argentine national side has seen some prominent changes following their World Cup triumph. However, fans around the world have been confused about Alejandro ‘Papu’ Gomez‘s exclusion from the team. During a recent talk show, a panelist gave rise to rumors claiming Gomez has been off the squad after offending Lionel Messi after passing an unwarranted comment about his wife, Antonella Roccuzzo. However, despite his claims, it seems like there is something else behind the player’s absence from the national team.

Argentina is currently in its transitional phase as the team hopes to find the perfect balance between experience and youth. Albiceleste manager Lionel Scaloni in one of his recent meetings allegedly informed La Pulga that he was going to take some veteran players off the team to make room for new talent.

The panelist claimed, “This man is a daring man. Locker room, I don’t know exactly in which match, if it was in the match against the Netherlands. Everyone is happy because they passed. Everyone in the locker room starts to sing. What does Alejandro El Papu say? ‘Hand over Antonela! Imagine Messi’s laser eyes… Immediate red card!”

While many fans following the interview have started to believe Lionel Messi has something to do with Gomez’s exclusion from the national team, there is a lot more to the actual story.

The actual reason behind Alejandro ‘Papu’ Gomez’s exclusion!

Despite the rumors, Lionel Messi has played no part in Gomez’s absence. The player was taken off the team earlier this year in October after he was found guilty of substance abuse. It’s been reported that the player was found consuming Terbutaline, which is an illegal substance under FIFA’s substance abuse laws.

Alejandro Gomez has been handed a two-year ban following his actions, with the player barred from participating for both club and country. The player reportedly took the substance last year in October to calm a bronchospasm crisis. However, with FIFA maintaining its strict approach when it comes to its substance abuse policy, the player is set to miss the next twenty-four months of action.
