Will Messi's magic lead Inter Miami to victory against Atlanta United tonight?

Inter Miami is getting closer and closer to its goal of winning the MLS Shield. Today’s fixture against Atlanta United gives them yet another opportunity to make their case for the title as they look adamant to maintain their dominance. With just mere hours until kick-off, many are eager to know whether Lionel Messi has traveled with his teammates for the crucial match.

The last fixture saw the Argentinian superstar finally don the pink jersey and make his much-anticipated appearance on the pitch. To announce his return from a two-month ankle injury, the 37-year-old even netted a brace while setting up his best friend Luis Suarez to help Miami clinch a decisive 3-1 victory over Philadelphia Union at the Chase Stadium.

Lucky for fans, today they’ll get to witness a similar affair at the Mercedez-Benz Stadium. Good news, Lionel Messi will play tonight for Inter Miami against Atlanta United.

The former Barcelona superstar will seek revenge for the previous 1-3 defeat that they suffered at the hands of Rob Valentino’s side back in July. It was a contest where he alone made his name on the scoresheet on Miami’s behalf.

While today might be another day to see him find the back of the net, this time he’ll do so for a win, unlike last time. Joining him on the scoresheet will also be Suarez. However, they should know that Atlanta’s attack can also pose a threat, so Messi should instruct his team’s defense accordingly. Not to mention that they haven’t maintained the clean sheet record, which they rightfully did so against Cincinnati at the end of August.

Notably, Tata Martino and Co. have a perfect chance to settle the score and clinch the crucial three points. The Herons are currently sitting at the top of the Eastern Conference with a tally of 62, over 10 points clear of second-placed Cincinnati. While the presence of Messi inspires belief, they won’t be in optimal condition due to a growing injury list.

Midfielder Matías Rojas is unavailable because of an ankle injury, and Noah Allen is still awaiting clearance after entering concussion protocol following a head injury. Meanwhile, Diego Gomez’s status remains uncertain as he deals with a lingering hamstring issue. With all such absentees, the former Barcelona coach will be forced to count on a few academy players.
