Argentina will start its campaign against Canada in the tournament opener of the Copa America. While the game would play a huge role in things in the future, Lionel Messi’s side still needs to get past the challenge of Guatemala. The defending Copa America champions will face the North American nation in an international friendly this Friday. The game will be the last opportunity for Lionel Scaloni to assess his squad, with the manager expected to submit his final squad for the tournament this Saturday.

Fans would love to see Lionel Messi in action after the Argentine appeared off the bench against Ecuador. According to reports, while the Albiceleste skipper wanted to start the game, the team management felt it would be a better call to come off the bench to minimize the risk of an injury. However, with Messi needing some game-time, Lionel Scaloni could start the player against Guatemala alongside Lautaro Martinez and Julian Alvarez.

With Enzo Fernandes and Alexis Mac Allister back in their ranks, Argentina could also go for a heavier midfield. Both Martinez and Alvarez have been in excellent form, and it would be unfortunate to see one of them lose their spot to Lionel Messi. However, La Pulga could be used as an advanced playmaker while Fernandes, De Pual, and Mac Allister man the midfield. While this could sacrifice Nico Gonzalez’s spot in the playing lineup, the formation will allow Argentina to make the most of their players.
