Will Kylian Mbappe's magic be the game-changer Real Madrid needs against Atalanta tonight?

“You don’t know who to hope might not play,” says Atalanta BC coach Gian Piero Gasperini ahead of facing Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup. For the Italian tactician, this is not just a face-off with any regular Spanish team. Beyond Madrid’s familiarity with the tournament, it’s the threatening roster that his fellow rival, Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti, has to choose from. Among the biggest questions regarding the starting XI is whether Kylian Mbappe would be a part of it tonight.

The French superstar boldly put an end to the biggest transfer saga by finally announcing his decision to leave Paris Saint-Germain for Los Blancos, heading into the Euros with a clear mind. With the international break concluded, Mbappe is expected to showcase his prowess for his dream club. Lucky for him, the 25-year-old’s debut may come on domestic soccer’s most grandiose stage.

Kylian Mbappe can play tonight against Atalanta BC in the Super Cup clash. Ancelotti will look to hand the former Monaco man his first minutes against the Serie A side. However, it’s unclear whether it will be from the start or if the forward will be introduced in the later stages of the game. This is the call that the Madrid boss will reveal in just a matter of time. Yet, one thing is certain: Mbappe will surely make his debut today.

Of course, expectations are high for the French skipper to make an immediate impact on the team. “He is going to have to adapt for this team as everyone has had to. We are very happy he is here because he has great qualities and – I’m sure, given his personality – he will adjust quickly,” said Ancelotti in the pre-match presser.

Though the iconic boss has clarified his expectations for Mbappe, Ancelotti may face a potential setback with another star player.

During the team’s practice session in Poland ahead of the clash, Eduardo Camavinga suffered an apparent injury. The French midfielder was seen limping off the pitch in serious pain, leaving the training session earlier than others. Notably, the injury occurred when Camavinga collided with Aurelien Tchouameni while contesting the ball.

Unlike Tchouameni, who quickly got back on his feet, Camavinga remained on the ground clutching his knee for an extended period. The 21-year-old even screamed in pain, leaving his teammates in shock. This certainly casts doubt on his availability for tonight’s fixture. However, the fact that Camavinga was able to limp off the pitch without too much delay offers some hope.
