Can Ronaldo's fiery ambition outshine Lewandowski's skills in tonight's high-stakes clash?

Club action is a major missing but the international window doesn’t seem to be that disappointing. That’s because Portugal and Poland are set to face off against each other after a very long time in what promises to be an enthralling clash in the UEFA Nations League. With just hours remaining until kick-off, the question looms whether Cristiano Ronaldo will play tonight.

Having arrived even for the September clashes, the Portuguese skipper left Al Nassr camp last week for a flight back to reunite with his teammates for this month’s window as well. In fact, the 39-year-old is returning to his home country in a rather impressive form that he showcased for his domestic side. Mr. Champions League has been on a scoring spree, having scored 7 goals in 9 matches so far across all competitions.

On top of that, there haven’t been any injury or fatigue-related issues regarding CR7. Hence, there stands no reason whatsoever why he shouldn’t play today. Good news fellas! Cristiano Ronaldo will be playing tonight against Poland. The skipper will be leading his nation from the beginning of the game itself and will also give his best to get his name on the scoresheet—albeit helping his side clinch the crucial three points.

Currently, the Roberto Martinez-led Portugal is sitting at the top of their League A Group 1 standings with 6 points, courtesy of securing victories against both Croatia and Scotland with a similar scoreline of 2-1. On the other hand, Michał Probierz-led Poland occupies third place with just three points. That’s because while they clinched a 2-3 win over Scotland, a narrow loss against Croatia was endured.

This also gives Poland a reason to seek a victory in tonight’s game as they wouldn’t want to slip down the pecking order. That will surely mount problems for Robert Lewandowski and Co. Speaking of which, the Polish skipper already tried to melt Ronaldo with some words hours before the clash.

Being ‘angry and nervous’ is good for Cristiano Ronaldo, says Robert Lewandowski!

Prior to the high-stakes clash, Robert Lewandowski was in awe of Cristiano Ronaldo’s evergreen commitment and longevity for the game. “He has written many pages of history and has always raised the bar for everyone around him, and this is something that cannot be overlooked,” began the 36-year-old FC Barcelona forward, who himself entered the clash by scoring a hattrick during last week’s La Liga matchday against Alaves.

Can Ronaldo's fiery ambition outshine Lewandowski's skills in tonight's high-stakes clash?

Have an interesting take?

The Polish striker claims that even though Ronaldo approaches 40, he has never let the ambition inside him get shaded. “He gets angry and nervous, and this shows his great ambition. I think if he didn’t have that anger, he might have looked like he was just playing for the sake of playing. But he clearly still has the desire, and he looks physically in very good shape, which shows that the path he chose was successful,” concluded Lewandowski.

Ronaldo surely is the epitome of longevity. Let’s see if he impresses his rival in today’s clash as well.
