Inter Miami seems to be on a roll with the addition of Luis Suarez this season. El Pistolero has added a new edge to Inter Miami’s attack alongside Lionel Messi with the Herons on the top of the Eastern Conference standings. With things going to plan, Miami could bring more reinforcements come summer. The MLS side is in contact with Argentine icon Angel Di Maria over a potential move to the United States. However, the team needs to make significant changes before signing the World Cup winner.

The MLS has strict laws when it comes to their salary caps. Teams cannot pay their players more than a set amount, with only specific players unaffected by the rule. Inter Miami has pushed the envelope with its wage cap as the side paid over $40 million, in wages, per annum. Lionel Messi is the top earner at the club with the Argentine raking in $20.5 million. Former Barcelona captain Sergio Busquets is second on the list with a paycheck of $8.5 million. In comparison, Jordi Alba and Luis Suarez are far down the latter, with the two making close to $1.5 million per annum.

The club must minimize their salary cap if Inter Miami wants to sign. A star like Di Maria would expect a big paycheck, and Inter Miami cannot afford the terms. However, Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas has repeatedly mentioned that his team is willing to cross the line, when needed, to take the team to the next level.

Meanwhile, Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami continues to be in pole position for his signatures. Despite their manager’s initial comments, the side is working on things behind the scenes to make a move feasible. The Herons, however, will receive competition with teams in Saudi Arabia who have identified the World Cup winner as a transfer target.

With multiple clubs keen on his services, Angel Di Maria is spoiled for choices and only time will tell what will be his next destination.
