Inter Miami can’t seem to catch a break with injuries. The Herons are currently battling against Nashville for their MLS fixture. While they were holding the lead in the first 45 minutes, Lionel Messi and his teammates were dealt a devastating blow as key player Diego Gomez was forced to exit the pitch on a stretcher after sustaining a tear-jerking injury.
The incident transpired after the 21-year-old apparently made a cross from the left side, only to injure his ankle. It left the player writhing in pain on the ground, forcing him to call for help. Unfortunately, the medics could not give Gomez a magic pill to continue the match while treating him near the sidelines, as he left the pitch on a stretcher while covering his face with his hands. He was replaced by youngster Leo Afonso in the 41st minute. Either way, it certainly doesn’t look good for both Gomez and Miami, especially given the run of form the Paraguayan had been in.

The former Libertad star had been in remarkable shape for Tata Martino and Co. notching 3 goals and 3 assists in over 12 appearances across the MLS and the CONCACAF Champions Cup. It remains to be seen how Miami balances things in his absence. The South Florida team initially fell behind within 2 minutes due to Franco Negri’s own goal. However, they rallied to seize the advantage with Messi’s equalizer and Busquets’ first-ever goal for the David Beckham-owned club. Nonetheless, the injury sustained by Gomez remains a talking point. Even though further tests will reveal the extent of his knock, he will be joining Miami’s lengthy list of sidelined stars.

Diego Gomez joins other Inter Miami stars in the recuperation room
The majority of players are not in action for Inter Miami. Despite featuring in the previous fixture, Jordi Alba has been ruled out for today’s clash as he nurses a hamstring injury. He is not alone, as defender Serhiy Kryvtsov and midfield duo Leonardo Campana and Robert Taylor are also recovering from similar knocks. Excuse us, but the injury list continues for Tata Martino’s side!
Additionally, defenders Facundo Farias and Ian Fray, along with new signing Federico Redondo and forward Robbie Robinson, are all out recovering from long-term knee injuries. Now, Diego Gomez has become the latest addition to the aforementioned stars with a potential ankle injury. There is no update as to when all the sidelined players will return to action.

However, let’s hope that all of them are able to recover quickly. Failing to do so would leave their season marred, thus making it difficult for them to contend for the top spot in the league.
