After Inter Miami’s MLS season ended prematurely, the club was sitting idle. This forced them to participate in a few friendly matches. While they were first expected to play against Chinese teams, it, unfortunately, got canceled. Luckily, they were able to work out a match today with their domestic rivals, New York City, in Florida.

Sadly, the match ended in a 2-1 loss today. While fans were busy dishing out their responses, Tata Martino took the opportunity in the press conference to address the loss. Interestingly, the former River Plate coach also revealed a change in tactics for the new season. As per journalist, Alex Windley, Martino said, “The team seems to be more solid with a line of five. This is something we will improve on over the off-season.”

Apparently, during the match, Martino favored five defenders instead of the typical four. And it seems he has gained confidence in using this formation in the new campaign. Additionally, the Herons will try to master it in the off-season. Be that as it may, it is quite a unique approach from Martino. Only time will tell how promising this tactical shift is for Miami.

Yet, a trial is necessary for Miami to start trusting this tactical shift. Perhaps another friendly tie is an answer to this question. Speaking of which, the club is apparently in the final stages of conducting another friendly, which coincidentally would also mark a reunion for Messi.

Lionel Messi set for a reunion as Inter Miami in for another friendly

In order to avoid sitting idle, the Herons are in dire need of playing friendly matches. Interestingly, this caused the club to schedule a friendly match with Argentinian side Newell’s Old Boys. Coincidentally, it is the childhood club of Lionel Messi, where he kicked off his soccer journey. If a match is scheduled, it would be a special reunion for the soccer veteran.
