Can JJ Watt's Burnley replicate Wrexham's Hollywood success story, or is it just a pipe dream?

When Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over Wrexham, they had two ambitious owners aim to bring the club to the Premier League. After plowing their trade in the National League for several years, they finally made it to the big leagues. Therefore, Wrexham will reach the EFL League Championship next season as they stand 2nd in the table and carry their good form. Nonetheless, another NFL star has ambitions similar to Ryan and Rob’s.

NFL star JJ Watt retired from the NFL but is open to a move back to the Houston Texans if they need him. Moreover, what comes to the limelight is his ownership of the soccer club Burnley. With Ryan and Rob taking Wrexham to Las Vegas after they get promotions, it looks like JJ Watt did the same. But of course, they didn’t get the recognition of how Wrexham got.

As they previously went for the Las Vegas celebrations, if Burnley achieves their targets, the NFL star has something in store for them. In an interview with CBS Sports Golazo, JJ Watt mentioned, “Last time we got promoted, we did that. We sent them there. Just didn’t quite as much fanfare. Just didn’t have a documentary following along. But we’ll have something in the cards if they do. If they do want what we want his year, they’ll be taken care of. Don’t worry.”

It’s true. When Hollywood comes calling, they rule the TV charts. Wrexham received recognition after ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ after showcasing how the club works from the inside. The club’s transparency in putting them out there is the key to success. Hence, JJ Watt took a page from Ryan’s playbook of treating his players well. So does Burnley have a chance to achieve their targets?

Wrexham and Burnley keep promotional hopes high

The two teams have what it takes to get promoted this season. Burnley leads the way with 21 points in the EFL Championship and looks to go back up straight again. They were relegated last year from the Premier League after getting just 24 points and finished 19th. With Vincent Kompany leaving the club to join Burnley, they lost a real leader among men. So, Scott Parker coaches the team now and they look well in place to achieve promotion.

Meanwhile, Wrexham looks set to get another back-to-back promotion. If this happens, it will be three promotions in a row. They lie second in the table with 23 points and Tom Brady’s Birmingham City leads the way. Of course, it’s a long season and anything can happen. We just can’t put our bets in, just yet.
