Manchester City returns home from Falmer Stadium with an enthralling 0-4 over Brighton. Pep Guardiola‘s side continues their winning spree as they successfully managed to clinch crucial three points in a historic fashion. While the win came in the absence of their injured star player Erling Haaland, the Norwegian didn’t fall short in cheering for his side as he enjoyed City’s thumping win.

The 23-year-old took to his Instagram and posted a story of the scoreline shared by his domestic club. Additionally, he wrote a caption saying, “Yessssssss solid,” with three hand-praying emojis. Haaland is super-pumped by his teammates delivering a remarkable performance, that too, in his absence. But what exactly forced him to be left behind in Etihad?

Guardiola was forced to travel to Brighton in the absence of his goal machine as the player didn’t recover in time from his knock. Initially described as a minor muscle injury, Haaland was unavailable for the FA Cup game against Chelsea. His potential return date is set for April 28, 2024, when City faces Nottingham Forest. However, the player’s status remains uncertain as assessments are ongoing, with the likelihood of his return on the reported date estimated at 25%.

Notably, a decent 17th-minute opener from Kevin De Bruyne, a 10-minute first-half brace from Phil Foden, and a latter-half goal from Julian Alvarez was enough for City to clinch the crucial three points. Interestingly, with a brace, Foden achieved a unique feat as well, entering a unique list alongside his teammates Haaland and Lionel Messi. Furthermore, even the Sky Blues managed to engrave their names in the annals of PL by clinching a remarkable feat.

Erling Haaland should also celebrate Manchester City’s latest record

According to analysis from OptaJoe on X, the Cityzens become the fourth team to score 4+ goals in four consecutive Premier League matches. Thanks to this record, they have now joined the ranks of Manchester United in April 2000, Man City themselves in May 2022, and Arsenal in March of this year. Additionally, they are the only team to achieve this feat on two separate occasions.

Notably, besides today’s commanding 4-0 victory, wins of 4-1 over Aston Villa, 2-4 against Crystal Palace, and a 5-1 triumph over Luton Town have contributed to this impressive accomplishment. It wouldn’t be surprising to see them extend this record further by securing a win against their upcoming opponents, Nottingham Forest. However, for now, they shall be focusing on recovery, especially that of Haaland, who remains an injury concern for now.
